Reflecting on the local derby

| 13/04/2018

Reflecting on the local derby match at North Petherton the Albion director of rugby Geoff Sluman said: “No doubt about it, this was a disappointing result for us. It is not that we played badly, we actually played quite well.

“There were probably a couple of main differences between the two sides. We gave away double digit penalties. Two of which resulted in yellow cards. You are never going to win what we knew was going to be a closely competed match with that level of indiscipline. Additionally we got into the scoring zone on many occasions and failed to convert that into points whereas Pethy made the most of all of their opportunities. We have no complaints about the score line. Pethy were deserved winners and played very well. All we can do now is to learn from the experience.”

Geoff went on: “It was not a wholly bad weekend. Playing on Friday night gave me the opportunity to watch our second team on Saturday. Despite losing to Gordano who are the top side in Somerset Premier league they put in an excellent performance with many strong individual contributions – that is tremendously encouraging for both the second team and the first team as those players support and interchange with the first team.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s home, the last of the season Geoff said: “It has been an hectic season and there is not much time to dwell on things. We have another tough match next Saturday with the visit of Okehampton. They are a bit of a bogey side for us and we will be working hard this week and hope to deliver a performance that puts right some of last weeks.”
