DENNIS CAVILL

Bridgwater and Albion Rugby Football Club mourns the passing of one of its longest serving members – Dennis Cavill – who passed away on 29 May at the age of 94.

Dennis was prominent in Albion circles from the early 1950s – joining the club as a player in our United XV but it is his role as a founder member of the club’s Supporters Club for which he is best remembered.  This organisation was formed in January 1950 – members were invited to join for a subscription of 2/6d! and Dennis was appointed the first treasurer with Mr N C M Pitman as secretary and Mr Aubrey Biddiscombe as President.  The Supporters Club fostered the playing side with fund raising activities as well as attendance and vocal spirit at the club’s matches – such a well established body of volunteers which has continued for the last70 years.

Dennis continued his support of the club by attending matches right up to lockdown in March 2020 and was a regular presence at AGMs where his enquiries always centred on the well being of the club.  Such a long and loyal supporter – his presence will be sadly missed when the club returns to the playing field.

Bridgwater & Albion offers its sincere condolences to Dennis’ family & friends.  Such was his standing in Bridgwater life generally then other local sporting organisations -cricket; bowls; skittles and of course Carnival will all have been appreciative of his long involvement.
