Sidmouth 42 – Bridgwater and Albion RFC 3

Bridgwater and Albion RFC ’s two match winning run was ended when they travelled to East Devon where they were beaten by a well organised and cohesive Sidmouth side.

Playing down the hill the hosts took full advantage of the conditions and dominated the first half scoring four tries. Albion fought back well in the second half and mounted several attacking moves but were unable to breakthrough the home defence.

The visitors kicked off with the wind behind them and made a good start. However on eight minutes Sidmouth mounted their first attack which resulted in a scrum 15 metres from the line from which Tom Hodge gained possession and opened the Sidmouth account with a try which player coach Phil Dollman the former Exeter Chiefs player converted.

On the quarter of an hour mark…

Sidmouth moved the ball across their backs before it found George Lock who slipped two tackles before scoring a try which Dollman added the extras to.

Bridgwater worked hard to create create opportunities of their own but on too many occasions the final pass went to ground. However they were eventually rewarded when Stuart Heal kicked a penalty in front of the posts making the score 14-3, which produced a loud cheer from the good number of Albion supporters who made the trip.

Sidmouth were relentless in their attack and although Albion defended well in the end Dollman touched down for a try to the left of the posts that he then converted.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half Bridgwater and Albion RFC created considerable pressure and were deep into Sidmouth territory when James Powell intercepted a pass and ran from his own half to score a try which Dollman converted making the score 28-3 at the interval.

Within five minutes of the re-start Sidmouth extended their lead when Connor Preston scored a try which Dollman converted.
