Thornbury 43 – Bridgwater and Albion RFC 17

Bridgwater and Albion RFC travelled up the M5 on Saturday to play at in- form Thornbury who had recently beaten table toppers St Austell.

Despite the scoreline the game was even throughout.  The Albion had plenty of territory but sadly squandered several chances.  In the end it was the Gloucestershire side who triumphed.

Bridgwater started strongly and within the first minute they took the lead when Stuart Heal slotted home a penalty.

Thornbury were a little slower to get into their stride.  When they did, a good move saw Evans cross for a try which was unconverted.

Back Came the Albion Boys

The Albion boys came back well and eight minutes later as Sam Adcock crashed over for a try.  Heal then added the extras to making the score 10-5 to the visitors.

Five minutes later Thornbury were awarded a penalty which Pinker kicked to reduce the arrears to two points.

Almost from the re-start a strong run up the left wing resulted in Pinker going over for his second try which was converted.  There was no further score and the players went into the break with the scoreline showing 15-10 to the home side.

Thornbury quick out of the blocks after half time

It was Thornbury who were quickly out of the blocks following the interval and after a period of pressure Evans scored a try that Pinker converted.

Ten minutes into the half Bridgwater and Albion RFC stole the ball and rumbled it towards the line before passing to Will Monro who went over for a try in the corner.  This was well converted by Heal, making the score 22-17 and bringing the Somerset side right back into it.

However Thornbury attacked with renewed energy and scored three tries within a 10 minute period.

Game then out of reach for Bridgwater and Albion RFC

On 55 minutes Burley the home Number 8 went over for a try following a drive which Pinker converted. For minutes later Richardson scored a try that Pinker converted.  On 65 minutes prop Heaven crossed for a try which Pinker converted.

In the final quarter of an hour both sides had their chances.  There was no further score as the match ended 43-17.
