Bridgwater and Albion move up to fifth place in the South West One (West) table after beating Cullompton on Saturday afternoon but it was a close run thing.

The home side started strongly and after five minutes led 6-0 after Lewys Ryan slotted home two penalties.

On 13 minutes the Albion got themselves onto the scoresheet when following good ball retention Ethan Trebble-Westlake ran in from 20 metres for a try that Stuart Heal converted.

The visitors extended their lead on half an hour when Luke Plummer broke through to score a try which Heal converted. Just before half time Kyran Devitt went over for an unconverted try to make it 19-6 to the Albion at the break.

The Devon side started the second half strongly and four minutes after the re-start they were rewarded when Chris Grant scored a try that Ryan converted.

The home side were buzzing and shortly after their Number 8, George Woofenden went over for an unconverted try making it 18-19.

Bridgwater continued to soak up the pressure before Heal slotted home a 45 metre penalty.

Cullompton weren’t done yet and after kicking a penalty on 61 minutes they took the lead when stand off Alex Brooks went over in the corner for an unconverted try.

In the dying minutes of the game Heal kicked sensibly to create pressure and in stoppage time Will Monro touched down for a try in the corner which Heal converted to make the final score 29-26 to the Albion.
