Bridgwater & Albion RFC return to Western Counties (North) action on Saturday
After a week’s break Bridgwater & Albion RFC return to Western Counties (North) action on Saturday when they host Chosen Hill Former Pupils at College Way kick off at 3pm.
The Albion are still looking for their first victory of the season. In their most recent match they lost away at Burnham on Sea and find themselves at the foot of the table with two points from their four matches.
Chosen Hill have also struggled this season and occupy 10th place in the table, two places above their hosts with five points from their three games, one of which they have won. In their most recent match the the Gloucester based club lost 64-26 at Nailsea and Backwell.
This is going to be a tough match for the Bridgy Boys, who have lost two of their matches by a narrow margin, while they were more than a match for Nailsea when they hosted them earlier in the season.
Saturday’s match will be the first home appearance for Jay Owens since he notched up his 100th appearance for Albion at Burnham on Sea.
The 29 year old came up through the Mini and Junior Section and then the Colts XV before making his First XV debut in a Somerset Cup match at Taunton in November 2013.
Jay is capable of playing in all of the back positions but has mainly appeared in the centre and now at stand-off.
Appearing in 21 of the 23 matches in 2023/24, Jay has expanded his range of kicking and passing skills considerably, making him a much more rounded player and one capable of leading the back division to more sparkling play. He is a more than adequate back-up goal-kicker as his record suggests.
Jay has appeared in all four of the matches this campaign and hopefully he will add that little bit of magic on Saturday to help the side to their first league win on the season.
Meanwhile Bridgwater and Albion Seconds will be looking to extend their winnings start to the season by chalking up their fifth victory of the season when they play away at Weston super Mare on Friday evening.
