RIP GEOFFREY BARNDEN
GEOFFREY BARNDEN
Bridgwater & Albion RFC former players and members will be saddened to learn the news of the death of Geoffrey Barnden recently. Geoff was a stalwart of our Athletic XV in the late 1960’s/early 1970’s captaining the side for an unprecedented four consecutive seasons between 1968/69 and 1971/72. In company with team manager Jack Smith, from his position as prop, he sustained the team during these seasons engendering an excellent playing spirit and loyalty from his teammates. In those days, aspiring young players started life in the Athletic XV before making later progress; in addition, injured players normally made their way back through the 3rd XV to prove they were ready for the demands of our higher teams. Geoff guided both young and old through these travails with some aplomb.
He also served as a member of the committee both during and after his playing days and always followed the club’s fortunes.
Bridgwater & Albion sends its sincere condolences to Pat and her family on their sad loss of an Albion stalwart.
