Bridgwater and Albion RFC 9 – Keynsham RFC-23

This match was sponsored by the club’s A XV known as The Dirtrackers who gathered beforehand to remember their Bridgwater and Albion RFC team mate, club stalwart  Dave Norman who passed away suddenly 22 months ago.

Bridgwater and Albion suffered another disappointing defeat at the hands of Keynsham. At the end of a game is was evenly contested for long periods but Keynsham ran out the deserved winners.

The hosts started off well but conceded a penalty on nine minutes which Challenger slotted home to give Keynsham the lead. Five minutes later following a move that saw Jake Knight prominent Kyran Devitt kicked a penalty to level the scores.

Jay Owens and Devitt worked well together and the ball was hacked forward to create a chance for Devitt but it crossed the dead ball line before the winger could touch it down.

Shortly after however Keynsham were awarded another penalty which Challenger kicked from 30 metres to regain the lead for the visitors.

On 25 minutes Oskar White made a good break which resulted in a penalty.  Devitt then kicked to level the scores once again.

Just before the interval Albion had Tom Hopkins yellow carded for a high tackle.  On the stroke of half time Keynsham prop Etheridge scored an unconverted try.  This made the score 11-6 at the break.

The hosts lost the services of Will Monro and Louis Staples through injury early in the second half.  Five minutes after the re-start Keynsham kicked a penalty to touch.  Then from the line out a catch and drive saw Woodman go over for a try.  This extended the visitors lead.

Once again however Albion came back and on 53 minutes Devitt kicked another penalty to reduce the arrears.

Another penalty

With 10 minutes to go the hosts conceded another penalty which Keynsham centre Miller took quickly.  The ball ball was worked across the backs and found its way to flanker Josham who scored a try which Challenger converted.

In the closing stages Albion pressed hard to try and  find their way back into the game but were unable to score and the game ended 23-9 to Keynsham.

Next week

On Saturday Albion make the trip to the Forest of Dean to face Lydney.  They are currently fifth in the table and have won 10 out of their 13 games.  This will present anther tough challenge.
