ALBION’S SADNESS AS SUPPORTER DEREK CUMMINS PASSES ON

| 24/02/2017

Bridgwater & Albion supporters and members – particularly those who played rugby football in the 1960’s and 1970’s will have been sad to learn of the death of Derek Cummins at the age of 77 recently.

In his youth Derek was an enthusiastic member of North Petherton Rugby Football Club and was part of their unbeaten side in 1963/64. He played on the wing or in the centre for several seasons for the village club. After his retirement from the game, he supported both North Petherton and more latterly Bridgwater & Albion and was a regular attender at our home matches. In business terms, he will be remembered for his long association with Dean Motors in Friarn Street where he was in partnership with his longstanding former North Petherton RFC colleague Alan Snook for many years. The family link to the motor trade is now maintained by son Mark.

Derek enjoyed his participation in rugby football both on and off the field and was also a regular on the golf course where his happy demeanour provided great company for all concerned.

The club sends its sincere condolences to Chris and her family.
