Geoff Reflects…

| 01/02/2018

Bridgwater & Albion Director of Rugby Geoff Sluman said it was another strong performance by us this week. Drybrook is a difficult place to go and play. Our performance and the result is a demonstration of how much the squad has developed during the season. When we hosted Drybrook back in October they ran out winners by 37points to 8. A 12-5 loss at their ground is a huge improvement. Considering some of the other results Drybrook have achieved on their pitch by beating Bideford by 113 points to 8 and even beating league leaders Exeter University by 27 points to 18 our result should be put in perspective. It was a huge performance by the guys that represented us, they gave it everything and played some excellent rugby. This was recognised by the Drybrook team, coaches and supporters who admitted they were relieved to have won and it could have easily been a different result.

It is not to say we were pleased with the score. We were disappointed to have lost and again that is an indication of how competitive we were whilst playing the team who are second in the league on their own ground.

Sluman thoughts already turned towards this coming weekend’s fixture against league leaders Exeter University. The whole squad is looking forward to the fixture; this group of players now look forward to the tough tests. Whilst we do not underestimate the scale of the task, we are definitely up for the challenge.

Our second team had a great result in Somerset Premier on Saturday beating Tor 25-19 last week that definitely puts pressure on our selection choices with a lot of guys capable of playing for the first team. We are all looking forward to the next matches.
