Geoff Reflects…

| 08/02/2018

This week’s reflections against Exeter University are very similar to last week against Drybrook. Another good performance against another top team, but just not quite getting over the winning line. If anything we can take even more positives from the Exeter Uni game. We were winning for most of the game and only going behind a couple of minutes from full time. The guys learned some more, they learned they can compete with so far the best team in this league and they learned what extra we have to do to win against a top team. For yet another week they should be proud of the performance. I am pleased because our performances against top teams are more competitive and importantly more consistent.

A different challenge faces us next week with a fixture that has been rearranged due to previous poor weather playing away to Thornbury RFC. They beat Cullompton by 50 points to 12 last week. Our challenge is to carry the form we have shown since playing Bideford at home in the last game before Christmas into this match. In terms of league points we have 45 points, the same as Cullompton but they are above us on points difference. Okehampton are one place above on 46 points, whilst Thornbury are one place above that on 50 points. The difference between the teams in that cluster is very fine.
