It’s Geoff says!

Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby Geoff Sluman was particularly pleased with his sides second half fightback to overcome local rivals North Petherton in the Webb Ellis Somerset Cup on Saturday.

Reflecting on the results he said: “”If anyone thought this game would be any less competitive between Bridgy and Pethy just because it was a cup and not a league fixture then they would have been mistaken. Inevitably both sides made a few changes to their line ups from the previous week.

“The intensity of the game and the commitment from both teams was every bit the same as the league fixture but I think the weather was a lot better so it was more of a flowing game.”

Geoff went on: “We went behind early in the match again which is a bit of a bad habit that we have to work on correcting, but I was really pleased with the way that we came back strongly and the longer the game went on the better we played.”

He went on: “It was a bit of a milestone game for a couple of players- our Captain Stu Heal gained his 150th first team appearance whilst Lewis Phillips achieved his 75th appearance last week. The Eighteen Gin man of the match was awarded to Oskar White who had an impressive game from fullback and scored two good tries.”

Looking ahead Geoff said: “We return to league action next Saturday. Our Second XV will not have a scheduled fixture whilst the First XV host Sidmouth at College Way. We have not played Sidmouth for several seasons but they gained promotion into our league again this year and have been going fairly well so far this season. Kick off will be at 3pm.”
