Keynsham 25 – Bridgwater and Albion RFC 20

Bridgwater and Albion RFC gave a much improved and spirited performance at Keynsham where at the end of a game that was played in incessant rain, which made handling difficult, they were only narrowly beaten.

Keynsham were in the ascendancy from the off and on three minutes a good move across their three quarter line was completed when full back Button crossed for an unconverted try.

Soon afterwards Bridgwater got themselves on the scoreboard when following a combined move involving Shaun Mahoney and Oskar White the visitors were awarded a penalty which  Kyran Devitt slotted over.

The score remained at 5-3…

The score remained at 5-3 for the next 20 minutes of play that were evenly contested, until Challenger kicked two penalties in quick succession to extend Keynsham’s lead.

In the closing minutes of the first half Albion scrum half Jake Knight made a half break which ended with Mahoney scoring a try near the posts which Devitt converted that made the score 11-10.

Right on the interval Keynsham intercepted a pass and stand off Hill ran to the line unopposed to score a try that Challenger converted to make it 18-10 at the break.

Penalty for Keynsham

Within four minutes of the re-start Keynsham were awarded a penalty which resulted in Woodman going over a for a try that Challenger added the extras to.

From this point in the match, despite the continual rain it was the Albion who were the side on the attack and in the 53rd minute Devitt kicked a 40 metre penalty.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC reduced to 14 men

Albion were then temporarily reduced to 14 men following an altercation which saw Gavin Knight shown a yellow card, while Keynsham’s player was shown a red card.

Inside the last 10 minutes Jake Knight delivered a good pass that saw Adam King score a try which Devitt converted.

In the closing stages of the match Albion pressed hard , but there was no further score as it ended 25-20 to the hosts.
