Newton Abbot- 39 Bridgwater & Albion RFC – 13

A Bridgwater & Albion RFC side that showed 11 changes from their previous match travelled to South Devon where they produced a game performance against fellow strugglers Newton Abbot but at the end of the match it was the hosts who ran out the winners.

The South Devon side took the initiative from the off and  after two minutes winger Corey Whane went over for a try which was converted by Will Castleton.

The visitors fought back well with stand off with Lewis Plece very much to the fore.  Eight minutes Bridgwater and Albion won a penalty that Jon Hill kicked.

Missed penalties

A period of even play ensued , which ended when Newton Abbot missed two penalties.  On 25 minutes Karolas Urbonis, who had a little earlier produced a try saving tackle was yellow carded.

Despite being down to 14 players Ethan Trebble- Westlake playing at Number 8 made a telling break but in the end it failed to produce any points.

After 35 minutes the home wingers combined in a move which started when Josh Davey swept across the field before releasing his opposite number  Reuben Brinkley went over for an unconverted try.

Good break from Trebble-Westlake

Just before the interval Trebble-Westlake again produced a good break from a scrum which resulted in a penalty.  Hill then slotted home to make the score 12-6 at half time.

Bridgwater started the second half strongly but after 45 minutes Newton Abbot scored the first of two tries.  This then put them in the driving seat.

The first came when Mat Dowrick made a good break before passing to centre Long who went over for an unconverted try. Two minutes later Dowrick burst through again before sending Ed Brown over for a try.  Castelton added the extras to making thew score 24-6.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC fought back

Once again Bridgwater and Albion came back well and competed strongly- as they did throughout the game.  Unfortunately in the 56th minutes Newton Abbot extended their lead when Davey went over for an unconverted try.

Going into the last quarter of the game the visitors enjoyed a good spell during.  Buller’s cousins Jordan and Taylor combined well in a move that culminated in Jordan crashing over for a try.  Hill then converted.

The final score of the game however came from Newton Abbot when in the 74th minute Brinkley went over at the post which Castleton converted making the final score 36-13.

This Saturday afternoon sees Bridgwater and Albion hosting North Petherton in the local derby match.

Neither side have won a match so far this season and occupy the bottom two places in the table, but previous form counts for nothing when the two go head to head.
