RIP IAN BUGBEE

| 11/11/2020

Members and players involved with the club in the early/mid/1960’s may well remember an industrious backrow forward Ian Bugbee playing for the club for a few seasons. Sadly the club has been advised of his death recently by the Winscombe club whom he joined after his few seasons at Bridgwater & Albion. Ian thus became an opponent of our United and Athletic XV’s over the remaining part of his career and even after that, he was always at Winscombe when one of our teams visited. He also kept in touch with his former Bridgwater & Albion colleagues by attending past players’ lunches.

Club President Mike Berry recalls Ian’s involvement – “I can well recall Ian Bugbee with or without beard appearing in the back row for Bridgwater & Albion when I supported the club whilst at school; in my early senior seasons he was still in attendance as a player in our 1st and United XV’s.  I remember that he lived in the Winscombe area and naturally joined the local club where he became an opponent of ours for the remainder of his career.  It was always good to see him on hand when Bridgwater sides visited Winscombe.  He was a hardworking back row forward who thoroughly enjoyed his involvement in the game both at Bridgwater and Winscombe.”

Bridgwater & Albion sends its sincere condolences to Ian’s family and to the Winscombe club with whom he had a long attachment.
