The last dance from The Friends of Bridgwater & Albion RFC
Saturday saw the last event attended by the Friends of Bridgwater & Albion RFC. The Friends joined with Mike Berry’s sponsorship day to both celebrate their achievements over nearly 20 year and present the Club with a final cheque from the monies they have generated to support rugby football at Bridgwater & Albion RFC.
Bob Payne (Chair of the Friends) presented Mike Berry (Club President) with a cheque which will be used for specific actions within the Club, including repair of the grandstand seating, air conditioning installation in the Sedgemoor Suite and flood light replacement for the second pitch.
The Friends concept was a simple one whereby their members and supporters generated money to directly support rugby through activities including their much-loved and widely attended match day lunches.
Several of the original committee members were present. However, Tony and John Innalls were missing. Sadly, John died in 2018 and Tony is not in the best of health. However, we should remember their contribution and that we would not have had the benefit of the Friends without them.
Moving forward, the Club would be more than supportive of anybody who would like to establish a similar initiative. I know that all the people involved in the Friends enjoyed being so and, as ex-players and supporters of the Club, got a genuine satisfaction from it.
It goes without saying; very many thanks to the Friends of Bridgwater from Bridgwater & Albion RFC.
