Wadebridge Camels RFC 85 – Bridgwater and Albion RFC 19

Bridgwater and Albion RFC made another long trip down to Cornwall on Saturday.  Despite putting up another brave performance they were well beaten by a strong an in form Wadebridge Camels side.

Although trailing throughout the match, the visitors kept fighting until the end of the match.  They were applauded off the field by the home crowd for remaining competitive throughout.

Wadebridge took the lead

Wadebridge took the lead in the first minute following a slick move across their three quarters.  They then scored in the corner.

On nine minutes this lead was extended.  The full back intercepted a pass and sprinted 90 metres before going over for an unconverted try.

Wadebridge kept up the pressure and scored further converted tries in the 16th, 18th and 21st minute.  This took the score to 33-0.

In the 24th minute Bridgwater mounted a strong attack which saw the forwards work the ball deep into Wadebridge territory. From the ensuing line out Taylor Buller peeled off from the front and went over for an unconverted try which put the visitors onto the scoreboard.

Five minutes later Wadebridge seized on a loose ball which resulted in their prop forward going over for a converted try.

Bridgwater came back strongly

Bridgwater came back strongly and after working the ball towards the Wadebridge line they won the ball  against the head in the scrum from which Taylor Buller crashed over for a try to which Tom Steer added the extras.

Just before half time a stray kick from defence was picked up by Wadebridge which resulted in another try – this time unconverted making the score 45-12 at the interval.

After the interval Wadebridge very much in ascendancy

The first 15 minutes after the interval Wadebridge were very much in the ascendancy scored three converted tries to take the score to 66-12.

On the hour however Bridgwater mounted an attack which resulted in Will Ryan scoring a try which Steer converted.

In the remaining period of play the hosts scored a further three tries making the final score 85-19 to Wadebridge.

Will Kerry, Danny Mahoney, Lewis Plece, Tom Steer, Dan Lang, Jay Owens, James Collings, Taylor Buller (vice capt), George Sluman (capt), Will Ryan,Tom Hopkins, Tom West, Matt Bishop, Gavin Knight and Rory Hobbs.

Replacements:all used -Karolas Urbonis, Harrison Cornish and Ollie Phillips.

This coming Saturday sees Bridgwater playing their final home league match of the season whey they entertain Wellington at College Way kick off 2.30pm.

Saturday’s match will be preceded by a Friends of Bridgwater and Albion RFC Lunch.
