BRIDGWATER & ALBION RFC SADDENED AT LOSS OF LIFE MEMBER & ACE FUNDRAISER

The club has received the sad news that our Life Member Christine (Chris) Purdy has passed away on 14 April.Chris was part our longstanding dynamic fundraising activities in company with her husband John.If anyone has visited the club to watch a match in the last 20 years or so you could not have failed to have been encountered(nicely) either Chris or John or both & politely asked to part with your money for that afternoon’s raflle extravaganza. They spent hours on faithful duty as well as organizing the collection & purchase of the prizes & all to provide the club with very gratefully received donations being the result.Chris & John & their colleagues who survive are the last bastions of B&A RFC SUPPORTERS CLUB originally formed in January 1950 & carried on splendidly over many years under the custodianship of luminaries such as Fred Gane,Hugh Allen,Arthur Butt,a considerable number of the Woods family & latterly by Sheila Horswell,Richard McLaren & Sue Hill.

Chris & John also organized the popular Monday Night Bingo  sessions at the club for many years bringing joy to many followers & again providing much needed revenue for the club until sadly this form of entertainment was overtaken by more modern fads.

In acknowledgment of their considerable fundraising exploits both Chris & John were appointed Life Members in 2011 & the club is pleased that they have able to enjoy the plaudits over the last 15 years-due to ill health they have been able to visit the club for while & we have missed them.

The club sends its sincere condolences to John & his family with our gratitude for the tremendous work which he & his wife have put in for the lasting benefit of others to enjoy.
