Old Redcliffians Seconds 17- 13 Bridgwater & Albion RFC

Bridgwater & Albion RFC put in one of their best away performances of the season when they travelled to Old Reds on Saturday afternoon where despite all their efforts and hard work they were narrowly beaten by the third placed club.

On a sloping pitch in wet and windy conditions it was the Albion who playing uphill in the first half.  Albion took a second minute lead through a Kyran Devitt penalty.

Old Reds got themselves onto the scoresheet in the seventh minute.  This was when following a penalty and catch and drive, one of the home forwards went over for a converted try.

Looking to increase the lead the hosts ran the ball well down the hill and looked likely score again.   Josh Frost produced a tackle to relieve the pressure.

Bridgwater & Albion RFC remain resolute

Throughout the half the Albion defence remained resolute and prevented Old Reds attempts to extend their lead. During this period there were some good clearances.  Two great bursts by Taylor Buller which took the visitors deep into home territory.

However following a penalty to touch Old Reds came back again.  In the 25th minutes their Number 8 burst through some tackles to score a converted try making the score 14-3.

Even though they were against the elements Albion continued to take the game to Old Reds.  They fought hard to get into their opponents half.

Away side awarded a penalty

On half an hour Frost was prominent in a move on the right hand side.  Albion were awarded a penalty that Devitt slotted home which made the score 14-6 at half time.

Old Reds ran the ball well up the slope and created early pressure in the second half.  Long clearances by Jay Owens and Devitt kept them in the hosts half.

For a long period most of the action was confined to mid field.  Old Reds were kicking down the hill and Albion were countering.

However into the last 10 minutes Owens produced a long clearance.  This was followed up with a good tackle that kept the pressure on the Reds defense. Albion continued to drive forward and Devitt’s penalty to touch gave the visitors a great position and when the forwards rumbled Gavin Knight was accredited with a try  which was converted making it 14-13.

Old reds kicked penalty

Old Reds countered and came up the field and in the 77th minute kicked a penalty.

However in the dying minutes Albion came back again and following a long penalty to touch there appeared to be an infringement by the Old Reds that was missed by the referee who soon afterwards blew his whistle with the score 17-13.

Albion earn a bonus point from this game and now take a break until 3rd January 2025 when they host Burnham on Sea kick off 2025.
