A depleted and under strength United XV came away from a 107-0 drubbing to league leaders Wiveliscombe RFC 1st XV just as the name suggests, united! Throughout the 60 minutes of play the struggling Albion side battled against a numerical and size advantage to keep they’re league hopes alive. After only 5 short minutes a good tackle from the ever tormenting Karolis Urbonas at openside led to a significant stoppage and injury for the flanker as he was stretchered off the pitch by his team mates after a very nasty leg break which will see him out of action and sorely missed by the squad for the near future.

From the restart Bridgwater, now 13 strong, were under extreme pressure from a slick home side resulting in numerous scores for the home side as they used the slope well to find space all around the defensive line.

At the 40-minute mark Albion were graced a few moments to regroup and figure a plan of how to stem the tide of scores growing ever more rapid as bodies tired and determination waned, at this point skipper Dan Lang set goals for his men going into what would be the last 20 minutes of a tough game to which the 12 others responded brilliantly retaining all possession at scrum and lineout and not giving away a single penalty throughout the game. Really showing the resolve of his team in its truest form.

At the end of play the score showed a 107-0 thrashing, but didn’t show the determination and resolve of the Albion players determined to play for the badge put their bodies on the line and keep the campaign rolling forward, large victories can be taken from the excellent work at scrum time keeping the experienced Wiveliscombe pack under control, with superb showing’s from debutant Jack Johns, Gav Knight and Brett Shaw all working overtime in the tight. In the lose the backline functioned well in attack with the few opportunities they had and remained resilient defensively till the end.

Next week action returns to College way as the United have another tough fixture at home to Nailsea and Backwell 1st XV, kicking off at 1.30pm, what better way to start off carnival day than by supporting the boys?!
