Bridgwater and Albion RFC II 13 v Cheddar RFC 17

Bridgwater & Albion RFC 2XV welcomed a spirited Cheddar side to a very wet College way on Saturday.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC II. A much changed squad to the victory over Wellington the previous week started off brightly in horrendous conditions. Some well organised defending allowed Bridgwater to gain some territorial advantage which resulted in an early chance for Jon Hill to get three points from the boot. The solidly taken penalty saw Bridgy take an early 3-0 lead.

Finding some momentum Bridgwater were on the front foot. Solid carrying and admirable ball handling in the rough conditions eventually put fly half Roger Drabble into space, allowing him to execute a perfectly judged kick, from which he gathered and offloaded to Dan page who dotted down under the sticks. Hill converted, 10-0.

Cheddar found some momentum of their own. Bridgwater found themselves repelling several attacks from the visiting side. Eventually Cheddar themselves were awarded a kickable penalty which took the score to 10-3 at the end of the half.

Cheddar started the second half strong but it was Bridgwater who stretched the lead from the boot of Hill. 13-3.

Shape and composure lost!

From then on, Bridgwater’s shape and composure seemed to desert them, which allowed Cheddar to gain a foot hold. On the back foot, pressure eventually took its toll with the visitors scoring from a maul drive out wide. The conversion was very well taken, 13-10.

This unfortunately did not spark the Bridgy lads into action and back came Cheddar with a score under the posts, taking advantage of an overlap and tiring defense. 13-17.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC eventually started to play again and maybe with a little more composure in the opponents 22 should of stole back the lead in the dying minutes. However it wasn’t to be, Cheddar’s defense held on. The final whistle ended a tough en-counter in very difficult weather conditions.
