Bridgwater & Albion RFC – a family affair

| 27/01/2026

Bridgwater & Albion RFC is a rugby club that runs in the family, and down the ages many sons, grandsons and great grandsons and more recently great granddaughters have been proud to wear the Albion colours.

Brothers, cousins and uncles playing together is not uncommon but fathers and sons playing together in the same team is a somewhat rarer occurrence.

Until last weekend, Jerry and Ollie Phillips who played together for the Albion First XV back in February 2018 against Hornets were the last father and sons to play together.

However in the Albion’s Second XV home match against Wyvern on January 17th Roger Drabble who has a long association with the club and his son Charlie appeared together.

The Drabble Family

Charlie, who  has come up through the Albion’s junior ranks and is now part of the Colts XV was making his senior debut, something about which both he and his Dad were delighted about.

The Albion Second XV are enjoying a very successful season.  Their victory over Wyvern, was their seventh on the bounce and currently they occupy fourth place in the Counties 3 Somerset South table.

Sadly, the weather took its toll on all Bridgwater and Albion matches on Saturday.  Now all three games will be played this coming weekend, Saturday, 31st January.

The First XV will host Clifton Seconds, kick off 2pm.  The Second XV will travel away to play at Wellington and the Third XV are at home to Yeovil Seconds.
