FORMER CENTRE DENNIS HILL FONDLY REMEMBERED BY BRIDGWATER & ALBION RFC
Bridgwater & Albion received the sad news of the death of Dennis Hill recently. Dennis who was a fruit farmer from North Newton – started his rugby football career at North Petherton and joined Bridgwater & Albion in the 1957/58 season when he made his debut in company with the likes of John Coleman, Roy Chidgey, Phil Sealey and Geoff Paisey who were all later to become renowned Albion stalwarts. Dennis played in the centre with captain DT Williams in a side containing vast experience with the likes of Jack Andrews (scrum-half), Jack Taylor and Peter Carlisle in the back row together with David Hodge. Colin Ball was also making his way through the Bridgwater side in company with Cyril Moate then playing on the wing.
Dennis served Albion well for a few seasons before returning to North Petherton where he continued and finished his footballing career. He always looked fondly upon his attachment to the two local clubs and looked in on them both after he retired. He was also a keen supporter of Somerset County Cricket Club and appeared there watching the county in the 2024 season.
The club sends its sincere condolences to Dennis’ family and with thanks for his long attachment to the game of rugby football.
