It’s Geoff says!

| 15/09/2019

Reflecting on the Albion’s victory at the weekend Geoff Sluman the Director of Rugby said: “Our game against Chew Valley was a tough one for a couple of reasons. They are a capable side as they showed the previous week when the beat St Ives 89-14, but is was also tough because of the conditions, it was a very hot day for playing rugby!

“The players responded to the ask that we start a lot better than the previous match – which they did and added some to be honest. I thought we controlled our game very well, and by that I mean that we managed what we did successfully by playing the right rugby on the right part of the pitch. Mostly, we kept the ball in hand when we should have and we kicked the ball when we should have. When we did kick we kicked well”

“Credit must go to the big forwards, it was not an easy shift in the heat. Front row forward Matt Ranson, who played the full 80 minutes which is unusual in itself for props was awarded the E18gin man of the match.”

Regarding the club results overall Geoff said: “This concluded a successful weekend for our senior men as the result backed up our Second XV league victory on Friday night against Taunton Wanderers which they won 53 -22.”

Next week Albion Second XV play at home to Bath Edwardians whilst the First XV travel away to face Cleve who play at Mangotsfield, on the north east outskirts of Bristol.

“Cleve were relegated from the league above so they will be used to playing at a faster pace against bigger players so we will need a good performance next week. We look forward to playing good teams though so the team will go into the game full of confidence. Both games kick off at 3pm.
