Lydney RFC 52 – Bridgwater and Albion RFC 5

Bridgwater and Albion RFC travelled to the Forest of Dean on Saturday where against a tough, rangy Lydney side who demonstrated good handling skills, they played well in patches but at the end it was the hosts who ran out the winners.

Fielding a side that showed six changes from the previous weekend Albion started brightly.

However after three minutes a move that involved 15 phases ended with the Lydney winger Cross going over for an unconverted try.

The visitors then started to compete but were unable to convert any of their moves into points.  Most of the action was confined within the 22 metre lines.

On 16 minutes

On 16 minutes Lydney won the ball and the move that followed resulted in prop forward Fowke going over for a try that Wicks converted.

Almost from the kick off home centre Sleeman extended the lead with a try which Wicks added the extras to.

Lydney had their tails up and on 24 minutes. Their Number 8 Scriven scored another try that Wickes converted to make the score 26-0.

Back in the game for Bridgwater and Albion RFC

For the last quarter of an hour Bridgwater and Albion RFC started to get back into the game.  Thomas Croal made a good break that sadly came to nothing.  Just before half time the visitors started to string some good moves together and got over the try line only for Taylor Buller to be held up.

Seven minutes after the re-start slick handling by Lydney resulted in flanker Kislingbury scoring a try that Wicks converted.

Twelve minutes into the half the hosts kicked a penalty to touch.  From the line out Cross went over for his second try of the match.

Lydney in top gear

The home side were now in top gear  and on 55 minutes Kislingbury went over for his second try that Wicks duly converted.

Albion fought back well following good work by Buller, George Sluman, Tom Hopkins, and Jon Hill went over for a try.

Minutes later however Wicks found his way to the line to score a try.  He also converted to make the score 52-5.

The last 15 minutes saw both sides running the ball.  It was the Albion who were in the ascendancy but there was no further score.
