Simon says…………

| 07/10/2016

Bridgwater and Albion head coach Simon Morrell has had time to reflect on another busy week’s training following his sides narrow defeat in Devon last Saturday.

“It has been another positive week post Okehampton where we were exceptionally unlucky to come away without the win.”

“Considering we had two tries ruled out by the official on the day and very good grounds for a second penalty try; we were a tad frustrated with the outcome, but not the performance. That said, we can, will and must not allow external factors to influence a result. I know the likes of Weston and Thornbury will have taken this game by the scruff of the neck and hopped on the bus, so no excuses there.”

Simon went on:“As ever we have looked within for the answers and will certainly be looking to build on last week’s performance.”

“From my point of view we can now start to see some real positives creeping into our game. If you take out what I call the anomalies- Weston and Newent we have only conceded two tries this season. I say anomalies because I would say we were stretched way beyond breaking point, in terms of availabilities for both of these games.

“We are also showing up well at the set piece. However an area we can and will make significant gains in is our attack, and that is where we have centred our attentions again this week.

“I suspect in the coming weeks we will have Luke Plummer, Brad Field and Garryn Basson back in the side, which will bring a combination of dynamism, vision and a sprinkling of arrogance to our attack. In the meantime we will endeavour to steer the ship as best we can in their absence.”

Looking back over the opening month of the season Simon said: “In a fairly perverse way, these first few weeks have really forced us to add some much needed steel to our foundations and I have no doubt that we will reap the benefits of this in the coming weeks.”

Regarding tomorrow’s game the head coach said: “As for Teignmouth this week, we are poised for a fascinating fixture. You get the impression that both sides approach this with heightened levels of vigour and arousal. I’m told we were on the receiving end of an absolute thumping the last time the two teams met and one would hope that will bring the best out of us this afternoon.

“By all accounts Teignmouth have their own motives for fronting up in good spirits, but for the life of me the reason eludes me!”

Simon added: “As always thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at the game on Saturday afternoon.”
