Bridgwater & Albion RFC 43- 20 Cinderford 2nd XV RFC
Four tries from recent signing Connor Hull was the highlight of the Bridgwater & Albion RFC’s victory over Cinderford Second XI on Saturday afternoon. A result that sees them climb out of the bottom four of the table.
This was very much a game of two halves with Cinderford looking the better side in the first half. The home side stepped up a level and were a much-improved team after the break.
Despite occupying the bottom of the table berth Cinderford were onto the attack from the start. Soon after the kick off took the lead when Ethan Hopkins went over for an unconverted try.
After 10 minutes the hosts made their first foray into Cinderford territory but were unable to turn their advantage into points. Two minutes later however the ball came to Kyran Devitt. Devitt with space ahead of him sprinted down the right flank, chipped ahead, over the defender and chased to the line where he touched down in the corner to level the scores.
The hosts took the lead on the quarter of an hour. Following a kick to touch and a line out Gavin Knight scored a try in the left corner which Devitt added the extras to, making it 12-5.
Cinderford continued to be dangerous
Cinderford continued to look dangerous on the break and narrowed the gap. Reuben Hinds scored a try to the left of the posts. Just before the half hour mark the visitors took the lead when Peter Tyrer-Jolley scored an unconverted try. This made the score 12-15 at the interval.
Bridgwater started the second half with a flurry and after five minutes a long cross field kick by Jay Owens found Hull on the right wing. Hull, who fielded the ball well and raced down the line before touching down close to the posts for a try. Devitt converted.
On 52 minutes a move that started with Trystan Hudson saw the ball passed to Alex Knight. Knight made a good break down the left before releasing Hull for a try in the corner, which was well converted by Devitt. This made the score 24-15.
By this time the Albion were well in the ascendancy and six minutes later a rolling maul from a line out saw Gavin Knight go over for a try which Devitt converted.
Bridgwater & Albion RFC fought on
The hosts weren’t done yet and with 15 minutes remaining a good break by Owens down the left resulted in another try for Hull.
Despite their lowly position Cinderford continued to look to attack at every opportunity and a period of pressure saw Will Kurb over for a try in the right-hand corner.
Just before the end a Cinderford attack broke down, the ball came to Owens in his own half who passed to Hull who shook off a tackle and raced from halfway before diving over for this fourth and final try of the game which Devitt duly converted.
On Saturday the Albion travel down the A38 to play Taunton Seconds, while Bridgwater Seconds are involved in a top of the table clash with Castle Cary at College Way, kick off 2pm.
