Chosen Hill Former Pupils 20 – 24 Bridgwater & Albion RFC
Bridgwater & Albion RFC gained a 24-20 away win over Chosen Hill Former Pupils on Saturday to secure sixth spot in Counties One Western North.
It was Albion’s last match of the season because the abandoned game the previous weekend against Nailsea & Backwell will not be ‘replayed.’
Although Albion held the upper hand for much of the game. But, they were under pressure towards the end as Chosen Hill came fighting back.
On a blustery day, Albion broke the deadlock after 25 minutes when Alex Knight snapped up an unconverted try following good play by Kyran Devitt.
The visitors stretched their lead after 35 minutes when they took advantage of some sloppy play with Knight eventually going over for a try, which was again unconverted.
Sin bin for Bridgwater & Albion RFC
Albion were down to 14 men following a sin binning when the home side reduced the arrears with a try to make the half-time score 10-5 to Albion.
Chosen Hill brought the scores level only three minutes into the second half with a long run in by one of their back row forwards.
The home side took the lead only a few minutes later, going 15-10 up with another try. The try was not converted.
Albion regained the lead in the 55th minute when skipper Taylor Buller took a tap penalty and burst over the home side’s try-line. Devitt kicked a fairly straight-forward conversion to put Albion 17-15 ahead.
Devitt confirmed the season’s point tally of 200
Albion were successful from another tap-penalty in the 66th minute by Buller, who almost went over before Tom Hopkins scored a five-pointer. This was again converted by Devitt, who took his points tally for the season to 200.
The home side, trailing 24-15, scored only three minutes later with another try, which was not converted.
Albion, a man down again, managed to defend their line towards the end despite the efforts of the home outfit.
In the only other match in the division, Taunton 2nd XV beat their Cinderford counterparts 33-22 at home to finish in seventh spot, two points behind Bridgwater.
Cleve won the championship, losing only two of their 22 matches. They pipped runners-up Clifton 2nd XV by two points.
