Bridgwater and Albion head coach Simon Morrell was in very positive mood reflecting on his sides narrow defeat at third placed Launceston.

“It was a brilliant game for us down in Cornwall and the boys should be feeling pretty positive after getting that result.

“It was a really tough first half when we were playing into the wind and the home crowd were clearly keen to see their side record a big win. Launceston threw everything at us but we showed the commitment and graft that we are after and made life quite difficult for them, which Im not too sure that they were expecting. If thats a sign of things too come then I am more than happy.

“We made a couple of mistakes that cost us the game and they hurt the boys.We conceded a try from the kick off and we butchered on at the end that would have won us the game.

Against Keynsham we probably butchered five or six chances, which happened again yesterday when we had three chances and missed out on two of them. Its a hard lesson to learn but those mistakes have cost us four points.

“Overall though the boys will take heart from the way they played yesterday because we know what fixtures we have ahead of us and even without our full squad we are still within touching distance of fourth place.

“If we can win three of our remaining games before Christmas then we will be somewhere near fourth and at that stage we will have a very strong team out and can look forward to a really good second half of the year.”

On Saturday Bridgwater host a Matson side who have lifted themselves up the table by winning their last two fixtures.

“There are no bad sides in this league and if you take the top two out theres not too much difference and Matson have just won two on the bounce. However we are going to be at home and while we will respect them 100% we will be really disappointed if we don’t get a win.

The last two weeks have been good for momentum and have been a step up for us and although it wasnt measurable on the scoreboard at Launceston we moved a long way forward in our game in Cornwall.

The head coach added: “We will have a hard week in training and kick on against Matson and see what happens.”
